Carlos Alcaraz goes into this quarterfinal well rested after receiving a walkover in the round of 16. Taylor Fritz is in a very different position, having come through long campaigns in Lyon and Basel before playing three matches in Paris, two of which went the full three sets.
The physical toll is only part of the problem for the American. One more win here would move him into the qualifying places for Turin, and that pressure, combined with tired legs, leaves him vulnerable against an opponent as sharp as Alcaraz.
Alcaraz Carries Dominant Record Against Lower-Ranked Players
- Fritz is targeting his first Masters semifinal of the season.
- He has a 2-4 record against top-five opponents in 2026.
- Alcaraz is currently on a six-match winning streak in Masters quarterfinals.
- He has a 33-3 record against players ranked outside the top 10 in 2026.

Fritz Seeks Career-Best Paris Masters Campaign
Taylor Fritz secured his place in the quarterfinals in Paris after defeating Arthur Fils in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. It was a convincing performance, particularly considering he had played back-to-back three-set matches earlier in the week.
This is only his second quarterfinal appearance at the Paris Masters in his career. He previously reached this stage in 2021 but lost to Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
The American has dealt with physical issues this season and produced disappointing results during the recently concluded North American swing, which cost him his place in the top 10.
However, he has bounced back since the start of the indoor season, reaching the final in Lyon and the semifinals in Basel before making another quarterfinal in Paris.
Fritz has a 6-3 record in tour-level quarterfinals this year, with his most recent defeat at this stage coming against Brandon Nakashima in Cincinnati. He will now look to reach his first Masters semifinal since Toronto last year.

Alcaraz Builds on Vienna Triumph With Another Deep Masters Run
Carlos Alcaraz received a walkover from Matteo Berrettini to reach the semifinals at the Paris Masters. Earlier in the week, he defeated Alex Michelsen in straight sets.
Like his opponent, this is only his second quarterfinal appearance in Paris. He previously reached this stage in 2022 but retired after trailing Holger Rune by a set. He will now look to produce a deeper run this time.
The Spaniard started the season strongly, winning 17 consecutive matches, but his form dipped in the following weeks before a wrist injury forced him to miss the next four months.
He returned at the US Open, where he reached the quarterfinals, before adding two more titles in Tokyo and Vienna in the following weeks.
Alcaraz has a 14-6 record in Masters quarterfinals and has not lost at this stage since the Shanghai Masters in 2024. He is currently on a six-match winning streak in Masters quarterfinals and will look to extend that run in Paris.

Verdict
Fresh legs against a weary, pressured opponent is a mismatch Alcaraz should exploit. Put the Spaniard down for a straight-sets win, and back him to cover the -2.5 games handicap in the same breath.
