The Red Sox won a couple of games in Houston in late August, but failed to build on that over the next three series.
They returned home for a three-game showdown with Arizona and were swept by the Diamondbacks, losing 12-2, 4-1 and 7-5.
Boston then entertained Toronto in a four-game series and experienced mixed fortunes, sandwiching 6-3 and 3-0 wins with 7-3 and 2-0 defeats.
The Red Sox then went back out on the road to visit Detroit and failed to build on a 7-5 series-opening win, losing the next two meetings with the Tigers, 2-1 and 4-1.
New York Mets Form
New York enter this series on their best run of form since late July, having won each of their last four games.
The Mets’ victories came on the back end of 10-game road trip that started after a successful home series against Baltimore.
They first travelled to San Diego and earned a split of a four-game series with the Padres, winning 8-3 and 7-1, and losing 7-0 and 3-2.
New York then headed to Arizona for a three-game series that saw them sandwich an 8-5 defeat to the Diamondbacks with 8-3 and 3-2 victories.
The Mets built on those successes when they visited Chicago, sweeping the White Sox thanks to 5-1, 5-3 and 2-0 wins.
