Houston entered this series having cooled off over the past couple of weeks, going 4-4 over the last eight games.
The Astros enjoyed a strong run earlier this month as they won eight times in a nine-game spell – a run that included a six-game win streak.
That streak was halted by a 4-2 defeat to Milwaukee, but they did manage to rebound in the final game of that series, winning 9-4.
Houston then hosted Los Angeles for a disappointing series that saw them sandwich a 6-5 win over the Angels with 9-7 and 2-1 defeats.
The Astros fare better in Oakland however, as they won the series opener 6-3 and then rebounded from a 5-2 defeat with a 3-2 victory.
Seattle Mariners Form
Seattle entered this series having finally snapped a four-game losing skid with a road victory on Sunday.
The Mariners started the second half of May on an inconsistent run of form that saw them sandwiched a 4-3 win in Baltimore with 9-2 and 6-3 defeats.
They then moved on to New York for a four-game series with the Yankees, and they made a strong start as they won the first two meetings, 5-4 and 6-3.
Seattle failed to build on that though and had to settle for a split of the series as they lost the next two meetings, 7-3 and 5-0.
The Mariners then fell to 6-1 and 3-1 defeats in Washington, but they did avoid being swept as they took the final encounter, 9-5.
