Jailton Almeida vs Derrick Lewis Preview & Picks

Jailton Almeida is tipped to win this fight via submission.

Almeida has been on a tear since entering the UFC and has been stacking up stoppage wins.

Derrick Lewis has been prone to stoppage losses and is taking this fight on short notice, so we expect the Brazilian to stay on a roll.

  • Jailton Almeida is on a 14-fight win streak
  • 7 of Almeida’s last 10 wins have come via submission
  • 7 of Almeida's last 9 fights have been finished in the 1st round
  • Derrick Lewis’s last defeat came via submission in February 2023

Jailton Almeida Form

Jailton Almeida is the #9 ranked heavyweight fighter with a professional record of 19-2 (7 KOs, 12 Subs).

Almeida earned himself a UFC contract when he submitted Nasrudin Nasrudinov in the second round of a fight on Dana White’s Contender Series.

He then marked his debut with a first-round knockout of Danilo Marques, before submitting Parker Porter in the first round of his sophomore outing.

The 32-year-old Brazilian completed a perfect hat-trick of fights in 2022 when he tapped out Anton Turkalj in the very first round.

Almeida’s streak has continued with two more wins in 2023 that have catapulted him into the top 10.

He stopped Shamil Abudrakhimov via strikes in the second round back in January, and in May he recorded the biggest win of his career so far by submitting Jairzinho Rozenstruik in the first round.

Derrick Lewis Form

Derrick Lewis is the #10 ranked heavyweight contender with a professional record of 27-1, 1 NC (22 KOs, 1 Sub).

Lewis has competed in the UFC since 2014 and established himself as a leading heavyweight fighter over the next four years, beating some notable names including Francis Ngannou.

A third-round knockout of Alexander Volkov earned him a heavyweight title fight in 2018, but he came up short as he was submitted in the second round by Daniel Cormier.

‘The Black Beast’ was then knocked out by former heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos in his next outing.

Lewis got back on track in 2019 as he edged Blagoy Ivanov via split decision for his first win in over a year.

That sparked four-fight win streak that saw him beat Ilir Latifi on points, Aleksei Oleinik by second-round TKO and Curtis Blaydes by second round KO.

That run was halted by a third-round TKO loss to Ciryl Gane, and although he bounced back quickly to knock out Chris Daukaus in the first round, he was unable to string together wins.

In fact, Lewis was knocked out by Tai Tuivasa in the second round and Sergei Pavlovich in the first round, and then saw his skid reach three fights with a first-round submission loss to Sergey Spivak.

He was able to stop the rot in July however, knocking out Marcos Rogerio de Lima in the first round.
