Head To Head

  • Houston leads the all-time series 2-0
  • Houston won 97-73 when the two teams last met in 1973

Houston Form

Houston enter the National Championship having knocked off Duke to extend their win streak to 18 games.

The Cougars’ last loss was an 82-81 overtime defeat to Texas Tech back on February 1, and they bounced back from that by ending the regular season with a 10-game win streak.

They extended that run to 13 games as they won the Big 12 tournament, beating Colorado 77-68, BYU 74-54 and Arizona 72-64.

Houston then cruised through the first round of March Madness, beating SIU Edwardsville 78-40, before beating Gonzaga 81-76 in the second.

The Cougars edged Purdue in the Sweet 16, 62-60, and then advanced to the Final Four with a 69-50 victory over Tennessee in the Elite Eight.

That set up a huge meeting with tournament favorites Duke, and Houston pulled off the upset as they won 70-67 to advance to the National Championship Game.

Florida Form

Florida go into the National Championship Game on a double-digit winning run too, having now been victorious in each of their last 11 games.

The Gators ended the regular season on a three-game win streak, and kept that run going as they won the SEC tournament.

They beat Missouri 95-81 and Alabama 104-82 to secure a spot in the conference tournament final, where they beat Tennessee 86-77.

Florida then began their March Madness campaign with a 95-69 demolition of Norfolk State, before battling to a 77-75 victory over UConn.

The Gators downed Maryland 87-71 in the Sweet 16, before earning their sport in the Final Four with an 84-79 win over Texas Tech in the Elite Eight.

That left Auburn as the only team standing between Florida and a trip to the National Championship Game, and the Gators got the job done as they ran out 79-73 winners.
