UAB vs BYU Picks & Betting Tips

BYU are tipped to sign off with a win and cover in the Independence Bowl.

The Cougars have moved the ball effectively all season long and go into this game in good form.

UAB are a rushing team who could be without their best running back.

The Blazers are also 0-2 against ranked teams, so we are backing BYU to get the job done.

  • BYU finished with a 10-2 record
  • UAB are 0-2 against ranked teams
  • UAB are 0-7-0 ATS against Independent Conference teams

Head To Head

  • This is the first ever meeting between UAB & BYU

UAB Form

UAB finished the regular season with an 8-4 record after winning three of their final four games.

However, that one defeat came against the only ranked team they faced during the run-in, UTSA.

The Blazers ran the Roadrunners close in a 34-31, but were unable to avoid a second loss against ranked opposition this season.

UAB faced Georgia back on September 11 and were dominated in a 56-7 defeat.

QB Dylan Hopkins is 136/212 for 2,085 yards, 15 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for five TDs.

Trea Shopshire and Gerrit Prince combined for 1,339 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns.

The star of this offense is DeWayne Bridge with 1,185 rushing yards and 12 TDs. However, he could miss this game with injury.

If Bridge sits this one out the Blazers will lean on Jermaine Brown Jr who has 766 yards from scrimmage and seven TDs.

BYU Form

BYU ended the regular season in good form thanks to their second five-game win streak of the season.

The Cougars surged into the top 10 as they won their first five games, knocking off #21 Utah and #19 Arizona State along the way.

Their run was halted by back-to-back losses against Boise State and Baylor but they quickly bounced back.

The offense averaged 43 points per game as they reeled off five consecutive victories.

QB Jaren Hall is 189/296 for 2,583 yards, 20 touchdowns and five interceptions. He also has 307 yards rushing and three scores.

Puka Nacua leads the team in receiving with 796 yards and six TDs, while Neil Pau’u has 526 yards and six scores.

Their biggest offensive weapon is RB Tyler Allgeier. He has rushed for 1,414 yards and 20 TD’s off 249 carries. He also has 187 yards receiving.
