Florida go into Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals knowing that a victory will secure the trophy for them.
The Panthers opened the series with a 3-0 win over Edmonton, and they have backed that up with a 4-1 victory at home and a 4-3 win on the road.
Friday night’s win has them on the brink of glory, and they get the first of four opportunities to clinch on Saturday.
Florida earned their place in the Stanley Cup Finals by eliminating Tampa Bay, Boston and the New York Rangers in the postseason.
The Panthers, who won their division with a 52-24-6 record, won the first three games of their series with Tampa Bay, before rebounding from a 6-3 loss with a series-clinching 6-1 victory.
They then needed six games to take out Boston, bouncing back from a 5-1 loss with 6-1, 6-2 and 3-2 victories, before rebounding to a 2-1 loss with a 2-1 road win that wrapped things up.
That set up an Eastern Conference Finals series with the New York Rangers, which they won in six games.
Florida went 2-1 down in the series, but rallied to book their spot in the Stanley Cup Finals, reeling off 3-2 (OT), 3-2 and 2-1 victories over the Rangers.
Edmonton Oilers Form
Edmonton go into Saturday night’s game in a ‘win or bust’ situation, having lost the first three games of the Stanley Cup Finals.
The Oilers began this series on the road and suffered 3-0 and 4-1 defeats at the hands of Florida.
A return home did not bring an improvement in fortunes either, as they were beaten 4-3 on Friday to leave themselves just one defeat away from losing the Stanley Cup Finals.
Edmonton came into this series having eliminated Los Angeles, Vancouver and Dallas packing during their playoff run.
The Oilers split the first two games of their first-round series with Los Angeles, only to then record 6-1, 1-0 and 4-0 victories to secure their place in the second round.
Their three-game win streak was brought to a halt by Vancouver, as the two teams split the first six games of the series.
Edmonton showed their nerve in Game 7 though, sealing a place in the Western Conference Finals with a 5-1 home win.
There the Oilers faced Dallas, and they erased a 2-1 deficit with 5-2, 3-1 and 2-1 wins over the Stars to set up this series with Florida.
