Los Angeles enter the new season having experienced a couple of big changes during the 2026 offseason.
Legendary captain Anze Kopitar retired after 20 seasons, with Drew Doughty taking on the role, and there was also been change of head coach with Peter Laviolette taking the reins.
These changes came in the wake of a 2025/26 season that saw them make a brief postseason appearance.
Los Angeles finished fourth in the Pacific Division with a 35-27-20 record, but they proved to be ‘one and done’ in the playoffs.
The Kings were paired with Colorado in the first round, and they were swept in four games by the Avalanche.

Colorado come into the new campaign as the second favorites to win it all behind Florida.
That is no real surprise as the Avalanche have returned the core of the roster that took them all the way to the Western Conference Finals last year.
They put together a 55-16-11 record to finish top of the Central Division and secure a playoff place.
From there, Colorado swept Los Angeles in four games in the first round, before needing five games to see off Minnesota.
The Avalanche’s Stanley Cup quest ended in the conference finals though, as they were swept in four games by Vegas.
