Rolando Romero (17-2, 13 KOs) makes the first defence of his WBA world welterweight title when he takes on Teofimo Lopez (22-2, 13 KOs) at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday, August 22.
The fight can be exclusively seen globally in over 200 countries on DAZN PPV.
Romero – a three-weight world champion – claimed the WBA (regular) title in May of last year when he dropped Ryan Garcia on his way to a unanimous decision victory over ‘King Ry’ in Times Square, New York.
The former lightweight and super-lightweight champion was later upgraded to full champion status when Jaron Ennis relinquished the belt to move up in weight, and he will now make his first defence of the crown under the bright lights of Las Vegas.
Standing opposite him will be a former lightweight and light-welterweight world champion in Lopez.
Lopez became a unified lightweight champion in October 2020 when he out-pointed Vasyl Lomachenko over 12 rounds, and having stepped up to light-welterweight in the years that followed, he came WBO and Ring Magazine champion in June 2023 when he beat Josh Taylor via decision.
He went onto to hold those titles for over two-and-a-half years, before eventually surrendering them to Shakur Stevenson with a unanimous decision defeat beat in January.
So can Lopez now rebound and become a three-weight world champion, or will Romero enjoy a successful first outing as welterweight champion of the world.
