UFC 329 Preview
The card is headlined by the return of Conor McGregor, as he takes on Max Holloway in a rematch from their August 2013 showdown, which ‘The Notorious’ won by decision.
The Irishman went on to become the biggest star in MMA as he won world titles at both featherweight and lightweight, while also crossing over into the world of boxing for a huge showdown with Floyd Mayweather Jr.
However, following that loss to Mayweather Jr his UFC career went into decline as he lost three times in the space of four fights, including a couple of TKO losses to Dustin Poirier in 2001.
McGregor has not stepped foot in the Octagon since then – despite teasing numerous comebacks – but he will finally return to action in July and he will do it against a familiar face in Holloway.
‘Blessed’ rebounded from that loss to the Irishman by embarking on a tremendous run that culminated in him become the UFC featherweight champion.
It has been over six years since he last held UFC gold – albeit he did hold the symbolic ‘BMF’ title at one stage – but he remains a top contender in the division having beaten a bunch of top talent in recent years, including Justin Gaethje who just won the lightweight championship at the White House.
Can Holloway claim another big scalp and avenge the loss from over a decade ago, or can McGregor overcome a five-year absence from the Octagon and score his first victory since January 2020?
