UTEP enter their series opener looking to improve on a rough 2025 season that saw them win just two of their 12 games.
The Miners responded to a season-opening loss with a 42-17 blowout of UT-Martin, and were far from disgraced in a 27-10 defeat at Texas.
However, they won just one game the rest of the way, with the 35-17 victory over Sam Houston on October 15 proving to be their only Conference USA success of the campaign.
That victory was followed by five consecutive defeats as they closed out the season with a 2-10 record.
Oklahoma Form
Oklahoma come into the new campaign looking to better a 2025 season that saw them fall at the first hurdle in the College Football Playoffs.
The Sooners opened the campaign with a five-game win streak, only to see that run end with a 23-6 defeat at the hands of Texas.
They rebounded with a 26-7 victory in South Carolina, but a 34-26 defeat to Ole Miss a week later effectively ended their hopes of playing for the SEC Championship crown.
Oklahoma did respond well to that setback though, as they wrapped up the regular season with a four-game win streak that saw them beat three ranked teams, including top-five Alabama.
That was enough for the Sooners to book a place in the playoffs, but they proved to be ‘one and done’ in the postseason as they fell 34-24 to Alabama.
