Ignacio Buse knocked out Benjamin Bonzi in three sets to reach the final in Winston-Salem, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1. He had the chance to finish the match comfortably in straight sets after leading by a set and 3-1, but was forced into a decider before sealing the victory.
The Peruvian arrived this week without a main-draw win at tour level on hard courts in his career and on a four-match losing streak on the surface, but he has ended that slump in impressive fashion this week.
Like his opponent, Buse has also produced some impressive results this year, reaching the semifinals in Rio de Janeiro, winning the title in Hamburg and reaching the quarterfinals in Kitzbuhel. These results have helped him move close to making his Top 30 debut in the rankings.
A few weeks ago, he defeated Tommy Paul at this stage to lift the title and will be looking to repeat that success and add another trophy to his name this week.
