Ben Shelton ended the grass-court season on a disappointing note after failing to defend his quarterfinal points at Wimbledon, but he bounced back strongly by reaching the quarterfinals in Washington and successfully defending his title at the Canadian Open.
Despite his recent opening-round exit in Cincinnati, his overall performances during the North American swing have been encouraging. He also reached three other finals earlier this year and won all of them, along with making the quarterfinals at the Australian Open.
This is his fifth main-draw appearance at the US Open, and he has cleared the opening-round hurdle in three of his previous four appearances, including his semifinal run in 2023.
