Terence Atmane and Jaume Munar have both had fitness concerns after suffering setbacks during this year's US Open Series that affected their schedules. With question marks surrounding both players, this looks like a fairly evenly matched contest, and Munar appears to be the more appealing option as an underdog.

He has generally been the more reliable of the two and also enjoyed success at this venue last year, reaching the second week.

Munar Seeks A Confidence-Boosting Win In New York

  • Munar has a 2–5 record in first-round matches at the US Open.
  • He has an 8–6 record against players outside the Top 50.
  • Atmane has a 0–6 record in first-round matches at Grand Slam tournaments.
  • He has a 9–7 record against Top 50 players this year.

Munar Looks to Overcome Injury Setbacks in New York

Jaume Munar has been dealing with an arm injury since early this year, which limited his schedule and prevented him from playing at his usual level. More recently, he suffered a back injury and was forced to withdraw from his second-round match in Montreal.

Overall, he has played 14 events across all levels this year and suffered six opening-round exits. His notable results include reaching the quarterfinals in Adelaide, Rotterdam and Geneva, as well as the third round at Wimbledon.

This is his eighth main-draw appearance at the US Open, and he has cleared the opening-round hurdle in only two of his previous seven appearances. His best result came just last year when he reached the fourth round.

Terence Atmane Makes His US Open Main-Draw Debut

Terence Atmane has shown signs of resurgence in recent weeks after a difficult stretch, reaching the third round in both Montreal and Cincinnati, as well as the second round in Washington.

These results have boosted his confidence after he had won only one match across his previous seven tournaments before the North American swing. He has registered multiple main-draw wins only five times this year, with four of those runs coming in North America, including a fourth-round appearance in Miami and a quarterfinal run in Acapulco.

This is his seventh Grand Slam main-draw appearance, and he has lost all six of his previous first-round matches at this level. This will also be his first main-draw appearance at the US Open.
