Lorenzo Sonego has endured a difficult 2026 season due to recurring fitness problems, but if there is one place where he can look to regain some form and confidence, it is Winston-Salem.

The absence of many of the top names this week improves his chances of making a deep run, while returning to a venue where he is a former champion should provide an additional confidence boost.

Sonego Looks To Continue His Winston-Salem Success

  • Lorenzo Sonego has a 4–0 record in opening-round matches at Winston-Salem.
  • He has an 8–8 record against players outside the Top 50 in 2026.
  • Vít Kopriva has failed to win a main-draw match in four of his last five events on tour.
  • He has a 14–11 record against lower-ranked opponents this year.

Sonego Returns to His Winning Ground in Winston-Salem

Lorenzo Sonego has endured a difficult season so far, dealing with fitness issues early in the year and struggling to find his best level, which has led to early exits in most of his tournaments.

He has played 14 events this year and cleared the opening-round hurdle in eight of them, but failed to progress beyond the second round in any of those campaigns.

This is his fifth appearance in Winston-Salem, and he has cleared the opening-round hurdle in all four of his previous appearances, including winning the title in 2024.

Vit Kopriva Seeks a Winston-Salem Revival

Vit Kopriva produced impressive results earlier this year, reaching the semifinal in Rio de Janeiro, the quarterfinals in Buenos Aires and Mallorca, and the fourth round in Madrid. Those results helped him achieve a career-high ranking of No. 55 a few months ago.

However, his level has dropped in recent months, and he has won only two matches across his last six tournaments, including four opening-round exits. He will now be looking to rebuild his momentum this week.

This is his second appearance in Winston-Salem. He reached the second round on his debut in 2025 and will be looking for a similar start this week.
