Mexico vs Chile Preview

Mexico are yet to win under new coach Rafa Marquez, but they can end that wait for victory against Chile. The South Americans can get on the scoresheet.

  • Mexico have won 7 of their last 11 matches.
  • Mexico have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 matches.
  • Mexico have seen BTTS in their last 2 matches against Chile.
  • Chile have lost 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Chile have seen BTTS in 6 of their last 7 matches.

Head to Head

Mexico hold a minimal 10-9 advantage against Chile in their head to head matches, while 5 encounters ended without a winner.

Mexico Form

After losing to England 3-2 at the World Cup 2026 Round of 16, national coach Javier Aguirre stepped down from his position and the Mexican FA appointed Rafa Marquez as his replacement.

His debut was in late September, a 1-1 draw against Colombia, while the follow up clash against Peru also ended with the same scoreline.

Last weekend, Mexico suffered a convincing 3-0 defeat against the United States, ending this clash with 1.73-1.14 expected goals and 6-8 shots on target. Santiago Gimenez missed a big chance to score a consolation.

Chile Form

Chile's results in 2026 have been very poor, losing four of their last five international friendlies while being led by caretaker Nicolas Cordova.

They had two players sent off in last week's friendly clash against Canada, losing the encounter 1-0 while missing a couple of chances to score (had 1.13 expected goals).

A couple of days later, La Roja locked horns against the United States, suffered a 4-2 loss but left much better impression, Diego Ulloa and Maximiliano Gutierrez appearing on the scoresheet.

Team News & Predicted Lineups

Mexico (4-3-3) Raul Rangel; Jorge Sanchez, Israel Reyes, Johan Vasquez, Jesus Gallardo; Luis Romo, Erik Lira, Orbelin Pineda; Roberto Alvarado, Santiago Gimenez, Alexis Vega

Defender Cesar Montes remains out alongside primary forwards Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez, while Hirving Lozano is sidelined after suffering a muscle injury.

Chile (4-3-3) Lawrence Vigouroux; Felipe Faundez, Ivan Roman, Jonathan Villagra, Diego Ulloa; Vicente Pizarro, Sebastian Berhalter, Brooklyn Raines; Gonzalo Tapia, Alexander Aravena, Dario Osorio

Chile have arrived with an experimental squad relying heavily on domestic and MLS talents under their young core setup.

Verdict

Both sides have been struggling defensively in recent friendlies, so BTTS is a realistic outcome, but Mexico should have the edge in terms of quality. I am backing the Tricolours to win a high-scoring affair in Los Angeles.
