Novak Djokovic has not looked at his most convincing level in recent weeks, with fitness concerns once again becoming a factor after he required a medical timeout during his first-round clash with Nuno Borges.

That could give Bu Yunchaokete plenty of encouragement, especially with the Chinese player arriving on the back of some confidence-boosting wins and the added advantage of strong home support.

Yunchaokete Faces A Huge Test Against Djokovic

  • Yunchaokete has a 6–2 career record in R16 matches on tour.
  • He has lost nine of his last 10 matches against Top 20 players.
  • Djokovic has an unbeaten 30-match winning streak in Beijing.
  • His most recent loss against a player outside the Top 100 came in Shanghai, China, last year.

Bu Yunchaokete Looks To Extend His Recent Progress

Yunchaokete Bu defeated Juan Manuel Cerundolo in three sets to reach the second round in Beijing, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. He had a chance to close out the match in straight sets but was forced to play a deciding set.

The 24-year-old has mainly focused on Challenger-level events this year and reached four finals in that category, including title runs in Birmingham and Ilkley.

He has made only limited appearances on tour this year. He registered his first tour-level win at the US Open by reaching the second round and built on that result by reaching the quarterfinals in Hangzhou last week. He will now look for another quarterfinal appearance in Beijing this week.

Djokovic Seeks To Revive His Season In Familiar Territory

Novak Djokovic defeated Nuno Borges in straight sets to reach the second round in Beijing, 6-3, 7-6. He fired eight aces and saved both break points he faced during the match.

The Serbian has been dealing with fitness issues that he has struggled to overcome, which have significantly affected his season. He has already missed several events and has looked more vulnerable this year. He recently suffered back-to-back opening-round exits in Cincinnati and at the US Open and lost his top-10 status.

He is looking to turn around his season while returning to his most successful tournament here in Beijing. He has played here six times before and lifted the title on all six occasions, carrying a 30-match unbeaten streak into this clash.

Verdict

Djokovic remains the favourite, but Bu's current form and the Serb's recent fitness concerns could make this a competitive contest. Backing Bu Yunchaokete to win a set, Bu +4.5 games, and over 20.5 games.
