Montreal Alouettes at Toronto Argonauts Predictions & Picks
Toronto are tipped to cover as they wrap up the regular season with a win.
Both teams have the luxury of limiting or resting their starters, so we lean towards a Toronto team that has been strong at home and has an experienced backup QB in Nick Arbuckle, who can take advantage of a weakened Alouettes defense.
- Toronto Argonauts are 4-1 at BMO Field this season
- All 4 of Montreal Alouettes’ defeats this season have come on the road
- The Over cashed in the previous meeting this season
Head To Head
- Montreal Alouettes lead the all-time series 88-66-2
- Montreal Alouettes won 37-30 when the two teams last met on June 12
Montreal Alouettes Form
Montreal enter the final game of the regular season having already secured home advantage for the Eastern Final with a 13-4 record.
A trip to the postseason never appeared to be in doubt as the Alouettes raced out of the blocks with nine wins in their first 10 games.
They stumbled in late August/early September as they lost twice in three games, but responded over the next three weeks to secure the #1 seed.
Montreal won 37-25 in Hamilton, before returning home to down Winnipeg, 37-10, and Saskatchewan, 44-24.
That allowed the Alouettes to rest their starters in Saskatchewan last weekend, where they were beaten 16-12 by the Roughriders.
Toronto Argonauts Form
Toronto have lost their last two games, but a strong run between late July and late September was enough to guarantee playoff football.
The Argonauts struggled early as they were kept away from their BMO Field home by the soccer World Cup, losing six of their first 11 games.
They started to turn things around in late July though and won three of their next five games to stat in the playoff hunt.
Toronto then enjoyed their best run of the season during September, as they won all four of their games.
The Argonauts’ run was finally ended by a 24-17 defeat to the BC Lions, and that was followed by a 40-39 loss in Ottawa last weekend.
Verdict
This is effectively a ‘dead rubber’ for both teams and we expect to see the backups for most of this one.
Toronto have the edge at QB and have home-field advantage, so we will lean towards the Argonauts in what could turn out to be a fun shootout.
