Virginia Tech Form
Virginia Tech head to Texas having won back-to-back games to improve their record to 6-2.
The Hokies kicked off the season with three straight non-conference wins, beating Virginia Military Institute 73-3, Old Dominion 44-21 and Maryland 35-26.
They then kicked off their ACC slate with a 21-14 victory at Boston College, but they failed to follow that up.
Virginia Tech were beaten 35-33 at home by Pittsburgh, before heading to California for a 25-20 defeat to the Golden Bears.
The Hokies have rallied over the past couple of weeks though, following up a 34-24 win over Georgia Tech with a 20-16 victory at Clemson.
SMU Form
SMU come into this matchup looking to rebound from last weekend’s defeat, which dropped them to 6-2.
The Mustangs opened the campaign in the best possible fashion as they beat conference rivals Florida State on the road, 27-24.
They backed that up with a 56-10 blowout of California-Davis, only to then lose 41-31 when they returned to ACC duty at Louisville.
SMU bounced back in non-conference action, beating Missouri State 34-24, and then followed that up in ACC play as they beat Boston College 25-16, Virginia 23-13 and California 59-20.
However, the Mustangs’ hopes of making the conference championship suffered another blow last weekend, as they were beaten 30-27 at Syracuse.
Verdict
SMU have dropped a couple of games this season, but they remain perfect at home.
The offense is rolling and the defense is capable of making crucial stops here, so we are backing the Mustangs to bounce back on Friday night.
