The Giants ended August by winning four of their final five games, starting with an 8-5 home win against Atlanta that prevented them from being swept.
They then backed that up with 4-1 and 6-1 wins against Cincinnati, before losing the series finale 4-1.
San Francisco hit back immediately with a 7-2 victory in San Diego, but that would prove to be their only win in four meetings with the Padres.
The Giants ended last week by losing three consecutive games at Petco Park, falling to 7-3, 6-1 and 4-0 defeats.

Chicago dropped the series opener when they returned home to face Milwaukee, losing 6-2, only to rebound with 1-0 and 3-2 wins before heading to Cincinnati to beat the Reds 6-2.
The Cubs lost the next two games of that series, 3-2 and 2-1, but avenged those losses with a 15-7 victory on Sunday to split the series.
