Cannonier debuted in the UFC back in January 2015 and endured mixed fortunes over the first few years, going 3-4 in his first seven fights.
‘The Killa Gorilla’ found some form between 2018 and 2019 though, as he recorded TKO wins over David Branch, Anderson Silva and Jack Hermansson.
His win streak was ended by a unanimous decision defeat to former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker, but he quickly rebounded to earn himself a title shot.
Cannonier beat Kelvin Gastelum via unanimous decision and then knocked out Derek Brunson in the second round to land a shot at then-champion Israel Adesanya.
His big chance ended in failure though, as he lost to ‘The Last Stylebender’ via unanimous decision.
The 40-year-old American bounced back with a split decision win over Sean Strickland, and in his sole outing of 2023 he bested Marvin Vettori via unanimous decision.

Borralho spent the early years of his career fighting in his native Brazil, before making two appearances on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2021.
He beat Aaron Jeffery via unanimous decision in his first outing on that show, and a month later he stopped Jesse Murray with strikes in the first round.
That earned ‘The Natural’ a UFC contract and he made his debut in April 2022, beating Gadzhi Omargadzhiev by technical decision.
Borralho backed that up with couple of unanimous decision wins, beating Armen Petrosyan and Makhmud Muradov, before scoring a second-round submission of Michal Oleksiejczuk.
The 31-year-old Brazilian then claimed a points win over Abus Magomedov last November, before kicking off his 2024 campaign with a second-round knockout of Paul Craig.
