However, they dropped their next two ACC games, 28-20 in Miami and 24-17 at NC State, and that heaped pressure on head coach Dabo Swinney.
Clemson quickly took some of the heat off him though, upsetting #12 Notre Dame 31-12 at home, and they backed up that victory with a 42-21 win over Georgia Tech.
The Tigers then knocked off #22 North Carolina, 31-20, before heading out on the road to edge South Carolina, 16-7, in their regular season finale.
Kentucky Form
Kentucky head to the Gator Bowl on the back of an impressive win that secured a 7-5 record for them.
The Wildcats raced out of the blocks with a run of five straight wins, but when the schedule got tougher their form cooled off.
Their 33-14 upset of #22 Florida was followed by a 51-13 blowout loss to #1 Georgia, and they then suffered a 38-21 defeat to Missouri that knocked them back out of the rankings.
Kentucky’s skid hit three games with a 33-27 loss to #21 Tennessee, and although they then beat Mississippi State, 24-3, they soon returned to losing ways.
The Wildcats were beaten 49-21 at #8 Alabama and 38-31 in South Carolina, but they were able to wrap up their schedule on a positive note, beating #9 Louisville 38-31.
Verdict
Louisville ended the regular season with an impressive win, but losing Ray Davis is a massive blow.
Clemson’s defense is tipped to produce another strong performance that leads the Tigers to victory and a cover.
