Minnesota Timberwolves at Los Angeles Lakers Preview & Picks

Los Angeles are tipped to pull off an opening-night upset at home.

The Lakers return with a settled starting five, while Minnesota may need time to gel after trading away Karl-Anthony Towns just weeks before this matchup.

  • Los Angeles Lakers are 4-2-0 ATS in the last 6 meetings
  • Los Angeles Lakers were 28-15 at home last season
  • The Under has cashed in 6 of Los Angeles’ last 7 games
  • The Under has hit in 6 of the previous 10 meetings

Head To Head

  • Los Angeles Lakers lead the all-time series 93-48
  • Minnesota Timberwolves won 127-117 when the two teams last met in April 2024

Minnesota Timberwolves Form

Minnesota head to Los Angeles on the back of a 3-2 preseason campaign and having traded away Karl-Anthony Towns.

Off the court, the Timberwolves grabbed headlines earlier this month by sending KAT to New York as part of a three-way trade that saw them acquire Julius Randle and Donte DiVincenzo.

On the court, they have experienced a mixed preseason that started positively as they beat the Lakers in Los Angeles, 124-107.

Minnesota backed that up with a 121-111 home win over Philadelphia, but they failed to follow that up as they were beaten 115-110 in New York, sparking a three-game skid.

The Timberwolves moved on to Chicago for a 125-123 defeat, before returning home to wrap up the schedule with a 132-126 defeat to Denver.

Los Angeles Lakers Form

Los Angeles will make history as LeBron James and Bronny James become the first father and duo son to play on the same team.

The Lakers will be looking to fare better than they did in preseason though, as they lost four of their six games while preparing for the new campaign.

They started preseason with back-to-back home defeats, losing 124-107 to Minnesota and 118-114 to Phoenix.

Los Angeles rebounded with a 107-102 win in Milwaukee, only to then suffer a 111-97 defeat when they took on Golden State in Las Vegas.

The Lakers responded to that loss by winning 129-122 in overtime in Phoenix, but they failed to back up that win as they again lost to Golden State, this time 132-74 on the road.
