The Spartans dropped back-to-back road games late in the regular season, as they were beaten 91-88 by South Carolina State and 91-87 in overtime by North Carolina Central.
They ended the regular season on a positive note though, as they ran out 81-69 winners at Howard.
Norfolk State then backed up that victory in the first two rounds of the MEAC tournament, beating Maryland-Eastern Shore 77-70 and Morgan State 58-55.
