The Bengals rallied from losing their first two games of the campaign to reach 5-3, but a three-game skid in November dealt a major blow to their chances of making the playoffs.
They responded with a three-game win streak, only to suffer back-breaking road defeats to Pittsburgh and Kansas City over Christmas.
Cincinnati did sign off on a positive note though, beating Cleveland 31-14 to at least finish above .500 with a 9-8 record.
The Bengals warmed up for this season by going 0-3 in the preseason, sandwiching a defeat in Chicago with home losses to Tampa Bay and Indianapolis.
They then suffered a surprise defeat in their regular season opener, losing 16-10 at home to New England.

They return with a roster that is arguably stronger than the one that went all the way last season, so it is no surprise to see them heading up the Super Bowl betting.
The Chiefs went 0-3 in the 2024 preseason, losing to Jacksonville, Detroit and Chicago, but when the real action started in Week 1 they got back to winning ways.
Rookie Xavier Worthy scored a couple of touchdowns as they held off Baltimore for a 27-20 victory.
