San Francisco came into the 2024 campaign looking to gone one better after losing in last season’s Super Bowl.
The 49ers opened the 2023 season with a five-game win streak, and then responded to a rough run in October with seven more wins as they finished 12-5 to claim the NFC West.
That secured home field advantage for the postseason and they took full advantage of it as they beat Green Bay 24-21 and Detroit 34-31 to reach the Super Bowl.
San Francisco were beaten 25-22 in overtime by Kansas City, but despite the loss they return almost all of the key talent that took them to the dance.
That makes the 49ers a top contender to go all the way, and they got off to a winning start a week ago as they beat the New York Jets 32-19.
Minnesota Vikings Form
Minnesota entered the new season with the aim of improving on a 2023 campaign that saw them finish 7-10.
The Vikings dropped four of their first five games a year ago, but rallied with a five-game win streak to reignite their playoff hopes.
Their form collapsed after that though, as they lost six of their remaining seven games to fall out of the playoff race.
Kirk Cousins missed the second half of the season with injury and has since moved on, so Sam Darnold will be at the controls on offense, while Danielle Hunter is a notable loss on defense.
The Vikings made some solid free agent pick-ups in the offseason however, and after a perfect 3-0 preseason campaign they kicked off the regular season with a 28-6 win over the New York Giants.
