The Patriots won 14 of their 17 regular season games to end Buffalo’s recent dominance of the AFC East, and then successfully navigated the playoffs by beating the Los Angeles Chargers, Houston and Denver.
That left only the Seahawks standing between them and the Vince Lombardi Trophy, but they came up short in Santa Clara as they fell to a 29-13 defeat.
New England have warmed up for this new season by going 1-1-1 in preseason action.
The Patriots opened with a 13-13 tie against Indianapolis, and then failed to follow up a 24-12 victory over Philadelphia as they lost 37-13 in Cleveland.

Seattle come into the new season looking to win back-to-back Super Bowl championships.
The Seahawks also went 14-3 during the 2025 regular season, fending off the challenge of the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco in the loaded NFC West.
They then downed their division rivals in the postseason to make Super Bowl LX, beating San Francisco 41-6 and Los Angeles 31-27 in the Divisional Round and NFC Championship respectively.
Seattle then lifted the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the second time in franchise history as they beat New England 29-13.
The Seahawks have prepared for their defence of the crown by also going 1-1-1 in preseason – losing 17-7 to Dallas, winning 19-16 at Tennessee, and tying 9-9 at Kansas City.
