Canada are one win away from a return to the final following their sixth victory of the tournament.
The Maple Leafs opened the World Championship with an emphatic 6-0 victory over semi-final opponents Latvia.
They followed that up with three more wins as they downed Slovenia 5-2, beat Slovakia via a shootout and then blew out Kazakhstan 5-1.
Canada’s win streak was halted by a 3-2 loss to Switzerland, and they then dropped a shootout to Norway before wrapping up the group campaign with a 3-1 win over the Czech Republic.
That set up a rematch from last season’s final as the Maple Leafs took on hosts Finland in the quarter-finals, and this time it was the visitors who came out on top, winning 4-1.
Latvia Form
Latvia are surprise semi-finalists, having overcome a slow start to march into the final four.
They appeared to be in trouble early on in the group stage as they lost 6-0 to Canada and 2-1 to Slovakia in their opening two games.
The Latvians have not lost since though, winning five straight games to march on in the competition.
They stopped the rot with a 4-3 overtime win against the Czech Republic, and backed that up by beating Norway 2-1, Slovenia 3-2, Kazakhstan 7-0 and Switzerland 4-3 in overtime.
Latvia then sent Sweden crashing out of the competition in the quarter-finals, winning 3-1.
