The USA got off to the perfect start as they downed defending champions Finland, 4-1, in their opening game.
They backed that up with a 7-1 demolition of Hungary, before beating Germany 3-2, Austria 4-1 and Denmark 3-0.
The United States then ran riot in a 9-0 victory over France, before wrapping up the group stage with a 4-3 overtime victory over a Sweden.
A semi-final berth was then secured when the Americans posted their third shutout win in four games, beating the Czech Republic 3-0.
Germany Form
Germany won four of their seven group games to scrape into the quarter-finals, and are now just one win away from a surprise final berth.
They got off to a nightmare start at the tournament as a tough schedule resulted in three consecutive defeats.
The Germans lost 1-0 to Sweden, 4-3 to Finland, and then fell to a 3-2 defeat when they took on their semi-final opponents, the United States.
Germany rebounded impressively though, beating Denmark 6-4, Austria 4-2, Hungary 7-2 and France 5-0 to snatch a place in the knockout stage.
They then made it five wins in a row as they upset Switzerland 3-1 in the quarter-finals.
