Former world heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz Jr (35-2-1, 22 KOs) ends a two-year exile from the ring when he takes on Damian Knyba (17-1, 11 KOs) at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Friday, September 4.

Ruiz shocked the boxing world just over seven years ago when he survived a knockdown and ended the first heavyweight title reign of Anthony Joshua, dropping the British fighter repeatedly before the referee finally waved it off in the seventh round.
However, the 36-year-old Californian’s reign as a world champion lasted only a handful of months as he was beaten on points by Joshua in the rematch, and since that night he has fought just three times.
His most recent outing came just over two years ago when he scraped a majority draw with Jarrell Miller, so there are major question marks hanging over Ruiz Jr as he prepares to end his absence on Friday night. What does he have left in the tank?
Standing opposite him is Polish fighter Knyba, who is coming off the first defeat of his professional campaign.
The 30-year-old earned a shot at the interim WBC heavyweight title by winning the first 16 fights of his professional career, but in the biggest fight of his career to date he was knocked out by Agit Kabayel in the third round.
