Botic van de Zandschulp is coming off back-to-back intense five-set battles, which could have taken a significant amount out of him physically. Alexander Zverev, by comparison, cruised through his last two matches in straight sets and should arrive for this contest in a much fresher condition.
Add to that Zverev's greater experience at the Grand Slam level and his excellent record at this venue, and the German looks like a very solid favourite.
Zverev Aims To Keep His Quarterfinal Streak Alive
- Zverev is 2–2 in quarterfinal matches at the US Open.
- He has a 9–0 record in tour-level quarterfinals this year.
- Van de Zandschulp lost his only Grand Slam quarterfinal, at the US Open in 2021.
- He has a 1–6 record against Top 5 players at Grand Slam tournaments.

Zverev Completes Grand Slam Quarterfinal Set
Alexander Zverev registered a straight-set win over Luciano Darderi to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open, winning 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. He won 86% of his first-serve points and saved the only break point he faced.
Zverev has previously reached four US Open quarterfinals. He won his first two but lost his last two, most recently against Taylor Fritz in 2024.
The German has now reached the quarterfinals at all four Grand Slam events for the first time in his career. He won the title at Roland Garros, reached the Wimbledon final and made the Australian Open semifinals earlier this year.
The 29-year-old has won 14 of his last 15 tour-level quarterfinals, including all nine he has played at this stage in 2026, highlighting his strong record and consistency in recent years.
Zverev has a 12-6 record in Grand Slam quarterfinals, with all six losses coming against Top 15 opponents. He will face a player ranked outside the Top 50 at this stage of a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.

Van de Zandschulp Completes Another Incredible Comeback
Botic van de Zandschulp won another five-set match from two sets down, defeating Arthur Gea 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open. He trailed by two sets and even faced a match point before producing an impressive comeback to win the match.
This is his second US Open quarterfinal. He previously reached this stage in 2021 but lost to Daniil Medvedev in four sets. He will face the World No. 2 again at this stage and will look to produce a better result this time.
Before the North American swing, van de Zandschulp struggled for wins, winning only three matches across his previous seven events. However, he steadied his form by reaching the fourth round in Montreal and the quarterfinals in Winston-Salem before continuing that momentum in New York.
He had played three quarterfinals earlier this year and lost two of them, both on hard courts. His only victory at this stage came on clay in Bucharest earlier this year.
