Carlos Alcaraz is not at his absolute best right now, which is understandable given that he is still working his way back to full speed following an injury break.
However, even without reaching his peak level, he should still have far too much quality for Yibing Wu, who may not have the physical durability required to consistently trouble an elite player like Alcaraz.
Alcaraz Looks To Continue His Grand Slam Dominance
- Wu lost his only previous third-round match at a Grand Slam, which came at the US Open in 2023.
- He has a 1–6 career record against Top 10 players.
- Alcaraz is currently on a 14-match winning streak in third-round matches at Grand Slam tournaments.
- He has a 28–1 record against players ranked outside the Top 100 at Grand Slam tournaments.

Yibing Wu Faces a Major Test in the Third Round
After defeating Adam Walton in the first round, Yibing Wu registered another straight-sets victory against James Duckworth in the second round, winning 7-5, 6-3, 6-1. He served 12 aces and did not face a single break point throughout the match.
This is only the second time he has reached the third round of a Grand Slam, with his previous appearance at this stage also coming at the US Open in 2022, where he lost to Daniil Medvedev. He now faces another top player for a place in the second week.
Wu has played 13 events on tour this year, with nine of them ending either in the qualifying stages or the first round. His only notable result came in Acapulco, where he reached the quarterfinals.

Alcaraz Gradually Finds His Rhythm in New York
Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jaime Faria from a set down to reach the third round at the US Open, winning 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2. After a slow start, the Spaniard raised his level and finished the match comfortably.
This is his fifth third-round appearance at the US Open, and he has won all four of his previous matches at this stage, including during his title-winning run last year.
The Spaniard started the season by winning 17 matches in a row, including title runs at the Australian Open and Doha, as well as a semifinal appearance at Indian Wells. However, he suffered a wrist injury in Barcelona in March, which halted his progress and kept him sidelined for four months until his return this week.
Despite lacking match practice and momentum, his performances so far have been encouraging, and he is gradually finding his rhythm this week. That should give him confidence as he looks to defend his title.
Alcaraz is currently on a 14-match winning streak in third-round matches at Grand Slams and has not lost at this stage since the Australian Open in 2022.
