The Fighting Illini kicked off their campaign at home to UAB, and ran out 42-23 winners against the Blazers.
They failed to follow that up a week later as they lost 31-27 to Duke, but they issued an immediate response last weekend, albeit against weaker opposition.
Illinois eased to a 48-10 win over Southern Illinois, with quarterback Katin Houser going 23/29 for 305 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
Collin Dixon racked up 131 yards and two receiving touchdowns, while Adam Laughery turned four carries into 93 yards and a touchdown.
Ohio State Form
Ohio State go into their Big Ten opener having rebounded from the loss in Texas to take their record to 2-1.
The Buckeyes made light work of their opening game of the season, as they blew out Ball State at home, 56-3.
They failed to follow that up a week later though, as they lost an eagerly-awaiting road game against Texas, 24-23.
Ohio State were quick to put that defeat behind them however, as Julian Sayin went 18/22 for 241 yards and two touchdowns in a 59-3 rout of Kent State.
Jeremiah Smith finished the game with 85 receiving yards, while Bo Jackson ran for 73 yards and a score.
