East Carolina won nine games – including a Bowl Game – a year ago, but the American conference crown evaded them.
The Pirates opened the season by splitting four non-conference games, and then enjoyed a successful start to their American slate as they beat Army 28-6.
They failed to make it back-to-back wins as they then fell 26-19 Tulane, and despite rebounding with four straight wins, a loss in late November ended their conference bid.
East Carolina were beaten 58-24 at UTSA, rendering their 42-3 blowout of Florida Atlantic a week later mere consolation.
The Pirates did wrap up the season with success in a Bowl Game though, as they downed Pitt, 23-17, in the Military Bowl.
Alabama Form
Alabama come into the new season looking to better a 2025 campaign that saw them lose in the SEC Championship Game and the Rose Bowl.
The Crimson Tide limped out of the blocks as they suffered a shock 31-17 defeat at Florida State, but they rallied with a couple of non-conference wins before downing Georgia, 24-21, in their SEC opener.
That proved to be the start of a six-game win streak in conference play – a run that was finally ended by a 23-21 loss at home to Oklahoma.
Alabama rallied and booked their place in the SEC title game by beating Auburn 27-20, but they failed to claim the conference crown as they fell 28-7 to Georgia.
The Crimson Tide bounced back in the first round of the playoffs, beating Oklahoma 34-24, only to then get blown out in the Rose Bowl, losing 38-3 to Indiana.
