The Giants won five of their first seven games this month, only to see their form cool off massively after a 5-0 victory over Washington.
They dropped the next two games against the Nationals, 4-2 and 8-0, and that proved to be the start of a seven-game losing skid.
San Francisco were then swept at home by San Diego, losing 4-1, 5-1 and 11-1 to the Padres, before losing the first two games of the series with Tampa Bay, 7-6 and 2-1.
The Giants rallied to win the series finale, 7-1, and backed that up with a 4-3 win over San Diego in the opening game of this series, but they failed to back that up on Tuesday as they fell 5-1 to the Padres.

San Diego returned home for this series having been swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers last weekend, but they had won nine of their previous 15 games.
The Padres began the month by winning 4-1 and 7-3 either side of an 8-5 loss to St Louis, and they then moved on to Arizona where they responded to a 6-2 loss with 10-5 and 3-2 wins.
Then then returned home for a series against Boston, and bounced back from a 10-2 loss to the Red Sox by with 5-1 and 6-2 wins over the visitors.
San Diego backed that up as they then travelled to San Francisco to sweep the Giants with 4-1, 5-1 and 11-1 wins.
The Padres' good run was halted as they lost 3-2, 6-0 and 5-4 to the Dodgers, and they then dropped the series opener against San Francisco 4-3, but they rallied to take last night's meeting, 5-1.
Verdict
San Diego brought an end to their losing skid last night and we expect them to back up that victory.
They can get after San Francisco starter Roupp and maintain their strong recent record against the Giants.
