Brandon Royval is the number two ranked flyweight contender with a professional record of 17-8 (4 KOs, 9 Subs).
Royval debuted in the UFC in May 2020 boasting a 10-4 record, and he got off to a strong start with back-to-back second-round submission wins over Tim Elliott and Kai Kara-France.
He failed to make it three-in-a-row as he ended the year with a first-round knockout loss to Brandon Moreno, and that was followed by a second round submission loss to Alexandra Pantoja in his first outing of 2021.
The 33-year-old American rallied though, reeling off three consecutive wins to earn himself a shot at the flyweight championship.
Royval edged Rogerio Bontorin by split decision, before tapping out Matt Schnell in the first round and knocking out Matheus Nicolau in the opening period.
He was unable to complete a rise to the summit though, as his title fight with Pantoja ended in a unanimous decision defeat.
‘Raw Dawg’ put that behind him by avenging a previous loss to Brandon Moreno, winning the rematch by split decision, and he backed that up with another points success against Tatsuro Taira.
Royval failed to make it three-in-a-row though, as he dropped a decision to Joshua Van back in June.

Manel Kape is the number six ranked flyweight contender with a career record of 21-7 (13 KOs, 5 Subs).
Kape entered the UFC in February 2021 with a record of 15-4, but got off to a rough start as he lost his first two outings.
He dropped a unanimous decision to Alexandre Pantoja, and then suffered a split decision defeat when he took on Matheus Nicolau.
The 32-year-old Angolan finally got off the mark in the UFC in August of that year, knocking out Ode Osbourne in the first round, and he was able to back that up over his next few fights.
Kape knocked out Zhalgas Zhumagulov in the first round, and then recorded back-to-back unanimous decision wins over David Dvolak and Felipe dos Santos.
‘Starboy’ failed to make it five-in-a-row as he lost to Muhammad Mokaev on points, but he has rebounded from that loss in style.
He knocked out Bruno Gustavo da Silva in the third round last year, before beginning 2025 with a third-round stoppage of Asu Almabayev.

Manel Kape endured a rough start to his UFC career, but he has quickly climbed the ladder since then.
