The Pistons began this run with a four-game win streak that was ended by a 111-104 loss to Houston, but they rebounded immediately to beat Sacramento 139-116.
They backed that up with a 109-107 victory in Denver before responding to a 114-96 defeat in Phoenix with a 131-124 success at Golden State.
Detroit followed that up as they then returned home to beat Brooklyn 130-77 and Denver 124-121, only to miss out on a fourth straight win as they fell 126-117 to Washington.
The Pistons bounced back before the break though, following up a 118-80 home win against New York with road victories in Charlotte, 110-104, and Toronto, 113-95.
New York Knicks Form
New York went into the All Star break having won 10 of their previous 12 games, but having cooled off slightly by splitting the last four.
The Knicks halted a four-game skid with a 120-66 demolition of Brooklyn, and that proved to be the start of an eight-game tear for them.
The sandwiched a 103-87 home win against Sacramento with road successes at Philadelphia, 112-109, and Toronto, 119-92, and then won back-to-back home games by downing Portland 127-97 and the Los Angeles Lakers 112-100.
Detroit took their streak to eight games by beating Washington 132-101 on the road and Denver 134-127 in double overtime at home, but they were unable to extend it further.
The Pistons had to rebound from a 118-80 loss at Detroit with a 111-89 win in Boston, before responding to a 137-134 overtime loss at home to Indiana with a 138-89 victory in Philadelphia.
