New York head back out on the road looking to back up their Game 5 victory and force a winner-takes-all meeting at the Garden next week.
The Knicks threw away home advantage as they lost back-to-back meetings with Indiana in the ‘Big Apple’, 138-135 in overtime and 114-109 in regulation.
They rallied to take the third meeting, 106-100 on the road, only for a 130-121 defeat in Game 4 to leave them one loss away from elimination.
New York fended that off on Thursday night, as they beat Indiana 111-94, and they must now follow that up with another win here or their season is over.
The Knicks made a mixed start to the postseason as they went 1-1 at home against Detroit, winning 123-112 and losing 100-94.
They rallied on the road though, winning 118-116 and 94-93, and then bounced back from a 108-103 defeat on the road with a series-clinching 116-113 win in Detroit.
New York then made a sensational start to the semi-final series with Boston, as they beat the defending champions in back-to-back games on the road, 108-105 in overtime and 91-90 in regulation.
The Knicks dropped their home opener 115-93, but took two of the next three to advance, sandwiching a 127-102 defeat with 121-113 and 119-81 victories.
Indiana Pacers Form
Indiana return home with another opportunity to wrap up this Eastern Conference Finals series, having blown their chance on Thursday.
The Pacers made a dream start to the series as they travelled to the ‘Big Apple’ to beat New York 138-135 in overtime and 114-109 in regulation.
They lost their opening home game of the series 106-100, only to rebound in Game 4 and take a 3-1 series lead with a 130-121 victory.
That gave Indiana the opportunity to wrap things up at Madison Square Garden on Thursday, but they passed up their chance as they lost 111-94 to the Knicks.
The Pacers made straightforward progress to the conference finals, winning eight of their first 10 postseason games.
In round one they beat Milwaukee 117-98 and 123-115, before rebounding from a 117-101 loss with a 129-103 victory on the road and a 119-118 win in overtime.
That set up a blockbuster semi-final showdown with Cleveland, and they made a dream start with 121-112 and 120-119 victories on the road.
Indiana dropped their opening home game of the series, 126-104, but bounced back quickly with a 129-109 win at home, before sealing a 4-1 series victory with a 114-105 win on the road.
Verdict
Pascal Siakam admitted New York ‘played harder’ in Game 5, but we are not expecting that to be the case.
Roared on by the home crowd, we expect the Pacers to wrap up this series and secure a meeting with Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.
