Canada vs Finland Preview & Picks

Finland are tipped to cover the Line as a betting underdog in this semi-final clash.

Canada dominated in the group stage, but they had to survive a massive scare in the quarter-finals and may have just lost Sidney Crosby for the remainder of the tournament.

The Finns, meanwhile, have rebounded strongly from their opening-game loss and could push the Canadians to the limit here, especially if talisman Crosby is done.

  • Finland are on a 3-game win streak
  • Canada failed to cover the Line in the quarter-finals
  • Canada are averaging just 1.25 goals per game more than Finland
  • The Over has cashed in 3 of Canada’s 4 games

Head To Head

  • Canada lead the series 15-14-1 since 2003
  • Finland won 2-1 when the two teams last met in May 2025

Canada Form

Canada enter this semi-final matchup having won their fourth straight game at the tournament, but having survived a massive scare in the quarter-finals.

The Canadians dominated during the group stage of the competition, winning all three games while out-scoring the opposition 20-3.

They opened with a 5-0 shutout victory over the Czech Republic, and backed that up with a 5-1 win when they took on Switzerland.

Canada then wrapped up the group stage with their most convincing victory to date, hitting double digits as they blew out France, 10-2.

That set up a rematch with the Czechs, and the second meeting between the two nations proved to be a lot more competitive and a lot more dramatic.

The Canadians needed a late goal to force overtime, where they snatched a 4-3 victory thanks to a Mitchell Marner goal.

Finland Form

Finland go into this game having rebounded from an opening-day defeat with three consecutive victories to make the final four.

The Finns opened the tournament as overwhelming favorites to beat Slovakia, only to suffer a stunning 4-1 defeat.

They quickly put that loss behind them though, stringing together back-to-back wins to avoid needing to play a playoff game.

Finland got off the mark with an upset win of their own, beating Sweden 4-1, and then backed that up with the tournament’s most one-sided win so far.

The Finns took on Italy in their final group game and rattled in 11 goals without reply as they smashed the host nation.

That set up a quarter-final clash with Switzerland, where they fought back from two goals down to win the game in overtime, 3-2.

Verdict

Canada made hard work of the Czech Republic, and now they are facing up to the prospect of being without Crosby for the remainder of the tournament.

We do expect them to get the job done in this one, but Finland have enough about them offensively to prevent this from becoming a total blowout.
