Clemson have dominated the ACC in recent years, but could Miami or North Carolina end that dominance as the Tigers begin life without Trevor Lawrence?
ACC Predictions & Tips: Clemson
Clemson have won the ACC in each of the last six seasons and that dominance is unlikely to end in 2021.
The Tigers lost some great talent to the NFL this season, namely Trevor Lawrence and Travis Etienne.
DJ Uiagalelei has big shoes to fill in replacing Lawrence but this could be a breakout year of the QB.
He has plenty of weapons surrounding him and this should once again be a high-scoring offense – they have led the ACC in scoring in each of the past three seasons.
Defensively they could be a tough team to move the ball on, and score points on, once again.
The Tigers have been a top-five team in yards per play in each of the past eight seasons and they boast one of the best defensive lines in the college game.
Clemson have come up short in the playoffs in each of the past two seasons, but they remain the cream of the crop and should claim another conference crown.
ACC Predictions & Tips: North Carolina
This is a ‘prove it’ season for a North Carolina team who have returned to relevance under Mack Brown.
They ended their major bowl drought last season, although they were soundly beaten by Texas A&M.
Despite that loss it was another step in the right direction and if anyone can end Clemson’s rule of the ACC it could be the Tar Heels.
They have a potential Heisman candidate at QB in Sam Howell and return 21 starters from the Orange Bowl.
Several playmakers on offense have left for the NFL, but North Carolina have reloaded and if the offensive line improves they will be tough to slow down.
Defensively they are trending upwards having added some much-needed size to the D-line.
The backfield remains one of the best in the ACC too.
So if Howell and the offense get firing, and this defense does improve as predicted, North Carolina could be in the hunt for the conference.
ACC Predictions & Tips: Miami (FL)
Miami’s offense clicked in 2021 following the arrival of co-ordinator Rhett Lashlee and QB D’Eriq King.
King will return this season and if he has overcome his knee injury, this group could be exciting to watch once again.
The Hurricanes still have a three-headed monster in the backfield in Cam’Ron Harris, Donald Chaney Jr and Jaylan Knighton.
Mike Harley is back at receiver and the offensive line could continue its improvement in 2021.
Defensively there is much work to be done and Manny Diaz has taken over play-calling as he tries to turn this group around.
It will not be easy though – the Canes have lost some big talent including Jaelen Phillips and Quincy Roche.
