BIG Ten Conference Predictions & Tips
Ohio State have won the BIG Ten Conference in each of the past four seasons. Could they make it five-in-a-row despite losing superstar QB Justin Fields?
BIG Ten Conference Predictions & Tips: Ohio State
Ohio State will experience a drop-off at quarterback this season now that Justin Fields is a Chicago Bear.
CJ Stroud is likely to get the nod to start and he will benefit from playing behind a solid offensive line.
He will also benefit from having a bunch of playmakers, both at running back and wide receiver, so Ryan Day will not get conservative with his playcalling.
Defensively there are some questions that will only be answered when the action begins.
Some key contributors have departed and if their replacements do not fill the void the pass rush and run defense could drop off.
The secondary struggled too in 2020 and if opposition QBs are not under pressure, this group could be picked on again.
If there is an area of the game that does keep Ohio State out of the College Football Playoffs it will be the defense.
However, the Buckeyes should at least remain the cream of the crop in the BIG Ten.
BIG Ten Conference Predictions & Tips: Wisconsin
Wisconsin will be aiming to bounce back from a disappointing 2020 campaign, with defense being their strength.
Jim Leonhard returns as defensive co-ordinator after snubbing the Green Bay Packers and he will lead one of the best groups in the nation.
The Badgers led the conference in total defense last season, but more importantly it was top-10 in the nation in yards allowed and points given up.
They have lost a couple of starters, but they are still left with a wealth of talent on that side of the football.
Wisconsin needs more from its offense, especially quarterback Graham Mertz.
His form tailed off in the final few weeks of 2020 and he was guilty of being sloppy with the football in some critical losses.
If Mertz can avoid those mistakes in 2021 we could see an improved season from Wisconsin. It may not be enough to see them challenge Ohio State though.
BIG Ten Conference Predictions & Tips: Penn State
Penn State ended the 2020 season in great form as they reeled off four straight wins and registered a rare win over Michigan.
Offensively they ended the year second in total offense in the BIG Ten so new co-ordinator Mike Yurcich has a great base to work with.
What he does need to eradicate though are the turnovers – the Nittany Lions gave the ball up 17 times last season.
Defensively there are big question marks, but Penn State could be in for a positive season in 2021.
