Oklahoma at Texas Picks & Betting Tips

Oklahoma can cover against FBS competition for the first time this season.

The Sooners are 0-4 ATS so far, with their only cover coming against a non-FBS opponent in Western Carolina.

This is the first time that they have faced a single digit handicap though, so we can have confidence.

The ‘Red River Showdown’ could turn into a shootout with Oklahoma taking it and covering.

  • Oklahoma are 5-0 this season
  • Oklahoma have won 4 for their 5 games by 4+ points
  • Oklahoma are 4-0-0 ATS against ranked opponents since 2020
  • Oklahoma rank #15 in the nation in scoring offense (38.4 points per game)
  • Texas rank #6 in the nation in scoring offense (43.8 points per game)
  • The Over has hit in 4 of Oklahoma’s last 6 games
  • The Over has hit in 5 of Texas’ last 7 games

Head To Head

  • Texas lead the all-time series 55-46-5
  • Oklahoma won 53-45 when the teams last met in 2020
  • Oklahoma have won 9 of the last 12 meetings with Texas

Oklahoma Form

Oklahoma have reeled off five straight wins to start the season but have slipped from #2 to #6.

They opened with a narrow 40-35 home win over Tulane before steamrollering Western Carolina 76-0.

The Sooners then held off a battling Nebraska team in a 23-16 win before snatching a 16-13 win over West Virginia thanks to a walk-off field goal from Gabe Brkic.

They then improved to 5-0 last weekend by fending off stubborn Kansas State in a 37-31 victory.

QB Spencer Rattler is 122/160 for 1,260 yards, 10 touchdowns and four interceptions. He has also scrambled for 95 yards and two scores.

Marvin Mims leads the team in receiving with 264 yard. Mario Williams (178 yards, two TDs), Mike Woods (187 yards, two TDs) and Jadon Haselwood (166 yards, two TDs) have player their part too.

The Sooners have a double headed monster in the backfield. Kennedy Brooks has 318 rushing yards and four scores, while Eric Gray has 330 all-purpose yards and a TD.

Texas Form

Texas have climbed back into the top 25 thanks to a three-game win streak.

The Longhorns rose from #21 to #15 when they cruised to a 38-18 win over #23 Louisiana on opening day.

However, a 40-21 defeat at Arkansas saw them fall out of the rankings and it took them three weeks to get back into the top 25.

Texas shut out Rice 58-0, routed Texas Tech 70-35, and then held off Texas Tech in a 32-27 win.

QB Casey Thompson is 54/76 for 707 yards, nine touchdowns and three interceptions.

Jordan Whittington (32 yards, three TDs) and Xavier Worthy (270 yards, four TDs) are the stand-out receivers on the roster.

The key offensive weapon is Bijan Robinson though. He has 652 rushing yards and seven scores, as well as 167 yards receiving and two touchdowns.

Oklahoma’s struggles against the spread have been well documented, but those spreads have been in double digits.

That is not the case here. We could see these two high-scoring offenses engage in a shootout, with the Sooners coming out on top.
