Tim Tszyu vs Carlos Ocampo Preview & Picks

Tim Tszyu is tipped to retain his WBO interim title by stoppage.

Tszyu is the better fighter and boasts fight-finishing power, so we are expecting a routine defence.

  • Tim Tszyu has a perfect 22-0 professional record
  • 16 of Tszyu’s 22 wins have come by knockout
  • 6 of Tszyu’s last 10 fights have gone at least the full 6 rounds
  • Carlos Ocampo has been knocked out in his career

Tim Tszyu Form

Tim Tszyu is the interim WBO super-welterweight champion with a 22-0 (16 KOs) professional record.

Tszyu recorded his first notable victory in August 2020 when he stopped Jeff Horn in eight rounds to win minor titles.

He then knocked out Bowyn Morgan in the first round and Dennis Hogan in the fifth, before stopping Steven Spark inside three rounds.

The 28-year-old Australia’s knockout streak came to an end in his next fight though, as he went the distance in a decision win over Takeshi Inoue.

Tszyu went the distance in his only outing of 2022 too, beating Terrell Gausha via unanimous decision.

He got back to his knockout ways in March though, stopping Tony Harrison in the ninth round to win the vacant WBO title.

Carlos Ocampo Form

Carlos Ocampo is a former world title contender with a 35-2 (23 KOs) professional record.

Ocampo compiled a perfect 22-0 record to earn a shot at IBF welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr back in June 2018, but it was a short night for the Mexican as he was knocked out in the first round.

The 27-year-old rebounded from his first career defeat with a 12-fight win streak that saw him stop 10 of his opponents.

Ocampo fought four times last year, sandwiching a ninth-round stoppage of Mikael Zewski with first-round knockouts of Omir Rodriguez and Vicente Martin Rodriguez.

That earned him a shot at the interim WBC super-welterweight title last October, but he again suffered a disappointment as he dropped a decision to Sebastian Fundora.

Ocampo was able to quickly bounce back from that loss though, stopping Mauricio Gutierrez Castor in the fifth round in March.

Verdict

Tim Tszyu is staying busy while Jermell Charlo is out with injury, and that is a risky move.

This has the makings of a straightforward defence though, and we expect the Aussie to get the job done.
