Vergil Ortiz Jr Form

Vergil Ortiz Jr in the interim WBC world super-welterweight champion with a professional record of 23-0 with 21 knockouts.

Ortiz Jr debuted in July 2016 and quickly climbed the welterweight ladder by knocking out 12 straight opponents.

His first notable victories then came in 2019 as he stopped Mauricio Herrera, Antonio Orozco and Brad Solomon to signal his arrival as a contender in that weight class.

In his sole outing of 2020 he stopped Samuel Vargas in the seventh round, and the following year he took out Maurice Hooker in the seventh and Egidijus Kavaliauskas in the eighth.

Ortiz Jr then stopped Michael McKinson in the ninth in 2022to take his record to 19-0, but he was forced to put his career on hold after that as he dealt with health issues stemming from bouts of COVID.

‘The Texas Machine’ made up for lost time in 2024 though, as he returned to the ring and fought no less than three times.

He stopped Fredrick Lawson in 153 seconds in his first fight in almost two years, and he backed that up three months later with a 159-second stoppage of Thomas Dulorme.

Ortiz Jr then claimed the interim WBC world super-welterweight championship with a majority decision win over Sergii Bohachuk last August.

He successfully defended that title in February of this year, as he beat Israil Madrimov on points.

Erickson Lubin Form

Erickson Lubin is a super-welterweight boxer with a professional record of 27-2 with 19 knockouts.

Lubin made his pro debut in November 2013 and reeled off 18 consecutive victories to earn himself a world super-welterweight title fight in October 2017.

It proved to be a miserable night for him though, as he was knocked out by WBC champion Jermell Charlo late in the first round.

The 30-year-old American rebounded quickly though, as he knocked out Silverio Ortiz in the fourth round in April 2018.

Lubin backed that up the following year as he fought three stimes, stopping Ishe Smith in the third and Zakana Attou in the fourth before out-pointing Nathaniel Gallimore over 12 rounds.

Those victories earned him a fight for a minor title, and he won the WBC silver championship with a decision win over Terrell Gausha.

‘The Hammer’ successfully defended the belt by stopping Jeison Rosano in the sixth round, securing a shot at the interim WBC title.

However, Lubin again failed to win a world title fight as he was stopped by Sebastian Fundora in nine rounds.

He has rebounded over the past couple of years though, sandwiching a points win over Jesus Ramos with a fifth-round stoppage of Luis Arias and an 11th round knockout of Ardreal Holmes Jr.

Verdict

Vergil Ortiz Jr has been on a tear in the professional ranks and boasts a flawless record.

He has knocked out all but two of his opponents too, so given that Erickson Lubin has been stopped twice before, we expect Ortiz Jr to get the job done inside the distance.
