Carlos Adames Form
Carlos Adames is the reigning and defending WBC world middleweight champion with a record of 24-1-1 (18 KOs).
Adames made his professional debut in July 2015 and won his first 18 fights to force his way into world title contention.
He was given a shot at securing a world championship bout when he faced Patrick Teixeira for the interim WBO world light-middleweight title in November 2019, but his bid to become a world champion was derailed by a unanimous decision defeat.
The 31-year-old did not fight again until the first quarter of 2021, but he made up for lost time as he took out Bryan Medina in the sixth round.
Adames backed that up a few months later as he knocked out Alexis Salazar in the third, and that was followed by a majority decision victory over Sergiy Derevyanchenko in December.
He then became an interim world champion for the first time in October 2022 when he knocked out Juan Macias Montiel inside three rounds to claime the WBC middleweight belt.
The Dominican fighter retained the belt with a ninth-round stoppage of Julian Williams, and having then been upgraded to full championship status, he beat Terrell Gausha via unanimous decision in his first proper outing as a world champion.
Adames held onto his belt in his only outing of 2025, but it was an unsatisfactory outing as he went to a split decision draw with Hamzah Sheerah.
Austin Williams Form
Austin Williams is fighting for a world title for the first time and enters this bout with a career record of 20-1 (13 KOs).
Williams entered the professional ranks in April 2019 and won the first 16 fights to force his way into the world title picture at middleweight.
Having claimed the IBF North American title with a points win over Steve Rolls in September 2023, he took on Hamzah Sheeraz for the WBC silver title in June 2024.
The 29-year-old American came up short though, as he was knocked out by Sheeraz in the penultimate round.
Williams rebounded quickly from his first defeat though, knocking out Gian Garrido in the fifth round later that year, and he then began 2025 with a unanimous decision victory over Patrice Volny.
‘Ammo’ backed it up with a ninth-round stoppage of Ivan Vazquez, and then made it four-in-a-row back in January, as he beat Wendy Toussaint on points.
Verdict
Carlos Adames is the clear favorite for this world title fight, and it is easy to see why.
Austin Williams has shown that he can be knocked out, and Adames has the power to break down and stop the challenger inside 12 rounds.
