Edmonton enter the new season seeking a return to the playoffs, having finished 7-11 to miss out on the playoffs last year.
The Elks dug themselves into a massive hole early on as they lost their first seven games of the campaign.
They rallied between August and the first half of September, winning five times in a six-game span to give themselves hope, but they failed to maintain that momentum.
A three-game skid effectively ended Edmonton’s playoffs hopes, rendering the victories in their final two games meaningless.
The Elks go into Saturday’s opener having gone 1-1 in the pre-season, losing 31-4 in Calgary before beating the BC Lions at home, 20-19.

BC go into their season opener looking to better a 2024 campaign that saw them make the playoffs but fall at the first hurdle.
The Lions dropped their opening game in Toronto, but rebounded strongly with a run of five consecutive victories.
They then cooled off with five consecutive defeats, before closing out the regular season an inconsistent run to finish 9-9.
That was enough to send BC to the postseason, but they were ‘one-and-done’ in the playoffs as they lost 28-19 in Saskatchewan in the West Semi-Final.
The Lions enter their opening game of the 2025 campaign having gone 0-2 in the pre-season, losing 26-16 to Calgary and 20-19 at Edmonton.

Both teams have undergone off-season changes, but history makes us lean towards the Lions.
