Ottawa Redblacks at Saskatchewan Roughriders Preview & Picks

Saskatchewan are tipped to cover as they win the season-opener.

The Roughriders have kept the core of the team that made it all the way to the West Final last year, and they have a solid recent home record against the Redblacks.

  • Saskatchewan Roughriders are 3-0 in the last 3 home meetings
  • Saskatchewan Roughriders are 4-1-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings
  • Ottawa Redblacks were 2-7 on the road last season
  • The Under cashed in both meetings last season

Head To Head

  • Saskatchewan Roughriders are 3-1-1 vs Ottawa since July 2022
  • Saskatchewan Roughriders won 29-16 when the two teams last met in September 2024

Ottawa Redblacks Form

Ottawa enter the new season looking to better a 2024 campaign that saw them finish with a winning record to make the playoffs.

The Redblacks split their first four games, but a six-game unbeaten run between the middle of July and late August put them firmly in the playoff race.

They cooled off after that, losing six of their final eight regular season games, but they had done enough to make the postseason.

Ottawa were one-and-done however, as they lost 58-38 in Toronto in the East Seim-Final.

The Redblacks go into the season opener having gone 1-1 in the preseason, winning 23-7 in Montreal before losing 24-16 at home to the Alouettes.

Saskatchewan Roughriders Form

Saskatchewan also made it to the playoffs in 2024, reaching the West Final before bowing out.

The Roughriders made a fast start as they won five of their first six games, but they failed to maintain that momentum as they then went seven without a victory.

They stopped the rot with a big win in Calgary though, and that sparked a four-game win streak that ultimately helped them reached the playoffs.

Saskatchewan took down the BC Lions in the West Semi-Final, 28-19, only to see their postseason dreams end with a 38-22 defeat in Winnipeg.

The Roughriders warmed up for the 2025 season with back-to-back defeats to Winnipeg, losing 15-9 on the road and 27-20 at home.

Verdict

Trevor Harris is back to lead a Saskatchewan team that went deep into the playoffs a year ago.

They boast a solid recent home record against Ottawa, who did not travel well in 2024, so we are backing the Roughriders on opening night.
