  • The Sony Open in Hawaii takes place between January 12-15
  • The tournament takes place at the Waialae Country Club, Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Our four contenders who could win on Sunday.
The PGA Tour remains in Hawaii for the Sony Open, which has attracted a competitive field of the world's best golfers. Who will walk away with the honours in Honolulu?

Hideki Matsuyama returns to defend his title after victory in 2021.

Past major winners who tee off on Thursday include Keegan Bradley, Stewart Cink, Zach Johnson, Hideki Matsuyama, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, and Gary Woodland.

These are our top selections that could lift the trophy this weekend.

Tom Kim

Tom Kim has an excellent start to his 2022/23 season on the PGA Tour, winning the Shriners Children's Open and placing T25 at the ZOZO Championship, T11 at the CJ Cup, T10 at the hero World Challenge, and T5 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions this past weekend.

Additional outstanding performances by the 20-year-old on the PGA Tour last year include finishing T17 AT&T Byron Nelson, 23rd at the US Open, 3rd at the Genesis Scottish Open, T7 at the Rocket Mortage Classic, victory at the Wyndham Championship, T4 at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (Japan Tour) and T13 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

The Korean golfer is making his debut at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Kim has shown that he can mix it with the best golfers in the world and comes into this event with excellent form.

Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth has been threatening to win in his last eight tournament starts by placing T10 at the Genesis Scottish Open, T8 at the Open Championship, MC at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T19 at the BMW Championship, T13 at the Tour Championship.

He was also T52 at the CJ Cup, 15th at the Hero World Challenge, and T13 at the Sentry Tournament of Champions this past weekend.

Additional accomplishments Spieth achieved last year include second at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, victory at the RBC Heritage, second at the AT&T Byron Nelson, T7 place at the Charles Schwab Challenge, and T18 at the Memorial Tournament.

The 29-year-old American has a solid record at the Sony Open in Hawaii, MC in 2017, placing 3rd in 2017, finishing T18 in 2018, and MC in 2019.

Spieth has played well in recent months and will fancy his chances to win in Honolulu this weekend,

Corey Conners

Corey Conners has consistent form coming into this PGA Tour event by placing T21 at the Wyndham Championship, T28 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, T5 at the BMW Championship, 26th at the Tour Championship.

He then started the new season with MC at the Fortinet Championship, T25 at the ZOZO Championship, T23 at the CJ Cup, T11 at the Dunlop Phoenix Tournament (Japan Tour), 16th at the Hero World Challenge, and T18 at the recent Sentry Tournament of Champions.

Other significant achievements by the 30-year-old Canadian last year include results of T11 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, 3rd at the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play, T6 at the Masters, T12 at the RBC Heritage, T21 at the Wells Fargo Championship, T13 at the Memorial Tournament, and 6th at the RBC Canadian Open.

He has featured four times at this tournament, finishing T39 in 2018, T3 in 2019, T12 in 2020, and 11th in 2022.

Conners will start with confidence that he can win in Hawaii, as he has previously performed well at the Waialae Country Club.

Taylor Montgomery

Taylor Montgomery has been in great touch on the Korn Ferry Tour and PGA Tour by placing T2 at the Price Cutter Charity Championship, T3 at the Pinnacle Bank Championship, T4 at the Albertsons Boise Open and T9 at the Nationwide Children's Hospital Championship.

On the PGA Tour, he was T3 at the Fortinet Championship, T9 at the Sanderson Farms Championship, T15 at the Shriners Children's Open, T13 at the CJ Cup in South Carolina, T10 at the recent World Wide Technology Championship, T57 at the Houston Open and T15 at the RSM Classic in his last 11 tournament starts.

Other notable results by the American on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2022 include T13 at the Astara Golf Championship, T15 at the Chitimacha Louisiana Open, T9 at the  Lake Charles Championship, T4 at the Veritex Bank Championship, T13 at the Simmons Bank Open, T4 at the Visit Knoxville Open, second at the AdventHealth Championship, and T8 at the NV5 Invitational.

The 27-year-old is making his debut at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Montgomery is capable of challenging for the victory in Honolulu and is the long-shot bet this weekend.

Verdict

Kim cannot be ignored at present and has a chance to win this third PGA Tour title this weekend.

Spieth has been thereabouts in recent months and looks ready to claim another PGA Tour tournament.

Conners is in good touch and can challenge for the trophy at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Montgomery has the form to upset the others and win at the Waialae Country Club.
