The Red Sox failed to keep that run going though, as they lost 5-3 to the Marlins and then suffered 6-3 and 4-3 defeats at the hands of Baltimore.
New York Yankees Form
New York come into this series on a strong run of form, having won nine of their last 12 games and each of the last five.
The Yankees lost five straight to start August, before finally stopping the rot with a 3-2 victory in Texas.
They struggled against Houston, sandwiching a 5-4 defeat with 5-3 and 7-1 wins, but rallied against Minnesota as they beat the Twins 6-2 and 9-1 at home.
New York dropped the series finale 4-1, but they have not lost since, sparking this five-game run with 4-3, 12-8 and 8-4 victories in St Louis.
The Yankees then moved on to Tampa for a two-game series and beat the Rays 13-3 and 6-4.
Verdict
New York are the team in better form, but they have had a rough time against Boston this season.
