Texas downed Clemson in the first round, winning 38-24, and they advanced from the Peach Bowl thanks to a 39-31 victory over Arizona State.
However, the Longhorns’ run was ended at the semi-final stage, as they were beaten 28-14 by Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl.

Ohio State then upset Oregon in the Rose Bowl, winning 41-21, before taking down Texas in the Cotton Bowl, 28-14.
That left only Notre Dame standing between the Buckeyes and the national crown, and they would not be denied as they beat the Fighting Irish 34-23.
